Smith, Patlovich Record Double-Doubles as UNH Outlasts UMBC, 3-2

BALTIMORE – Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) and Emma Patolivich (Lake Forest, Ill.) both recorded a double-double to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Sunday afternoon's 3-2 victory against UMBC at UMBC Event Center. The game was played in minimal lighting during a campus-wide power outage.
The set scores were 25-16, 19-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13. UNH is 11-5 overall and 1-1 in America East. UMBC moved to 3-12, 0-2.
In the decisive fifth set, UNH trailed 13-12 but a service error by the Retrievers leveled the score. Erin Hedrick (Montvale, N.J.) and Hannah Crist (Cicero, Ind.) combined for a block -- UNH's 13th of the match -- to give the Wildcats match point at 14-13. New Hampshire closed out the set and match on the next point, a kill by Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.).

STAT LEADERS
* Smith recorded a team-high 12 kills and 11 digs; she finished with 13.5 points.
* Patlovich tallied 24 assists and 11 digs.
* Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) had a team-high 15 points on 10 kills (.304 hitting percentage) and eight blocks (two solo; six assisted).
* Petke finished with 12 points on eight kills and seven blocks (one solo; six assisted).
* Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) tallied 11 kills on a .348 hitting percentage.
* Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) matched Patlovich's 24 assists.
* Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) was the top 'Cat in digs with 23.
* Logan Welti (Middleton, Wis.) chipped in defensively with 16 digs.
UNH NOTEBOOK
* Tanski is No. 4 on the program's all-time digs list with 1,331. Next on the list is No. 3 Alyse Lahti (1,334).
* Smith, who became the 17th UNH player to record 1,000 career points on Sept. 6, increased her total to 1,128.
SET 1
* With the score tied at 7, UNH won three consecutive points to inch ahead.
* The Wildcats pushed the advantage to 18-11 before UMBC pull within 18-14.
* UNH closed the set on a 5-0 run.
SET 2
* UMBC jumped out to a 4-0 run and pushed the cushion to 7-1.
* The 'Cats rallied to tie the score at 13, but the Retrievers went on another 4-0 run to regain the lead, 17-13.
* The home team inched ahead 22-16 en route to leveling the match at one set apiece.
SET 3
* With the score tied at 9, UNH won four consecutive points to build a 13-9 advantage.
* UMBC responded with a 6-0 run to take a 15-13 lead.
* Trailing 21-19, the Wildcats went on another four-point run to go back in front, 23-21.
* The Retrievers won the next point, but then back-to-back kills by Sullivan ended the set in favor of the 'Cats.
SET 4
* With the score tied at 7, UMBC won three consecutive points as part of a 5-3 spurt to take a 12-10 lead.
* New Hampshire reeled off four consecutive points to hold a 14-12 advantage.
* UMBC went on a 5-0 run to build an 18-16 lead.
* The Retrievers won four of the next five points to push the margin to 22-17.
SET 5
* There were eight ties in the fifth set, including 10-all, 12-all and 13-all.
* Neither team led by more than two points in Set 5.
* Neither team won three consecutive points in the set until UNH won the last three points of the match.
