Smith Records 1,000th Career Kill and Double-Double in 3-1 Loss at Dartmouth

Kennedi Smith Becomes the Ninth Player In Program History to Reach 1,000-Kill Milestone
DURHAM, N.H. – Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) recorded her 1,000th career kill and her seventh double-double of the season, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Dartmouth College at Leede Arena on Saturday night. The set scores were 21-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-23.
Smith, who entered the match with 997 career kills, became the ninth UNH Wildcat to reach the milestone with the third of her six kills in the first set. She finished the match with a team-high 12 kills and 10 digs.
UNH saw its four-match win streak end and is now 14-6 overall. Dartmouth improved to 6-12.

STAT LEADERS
•Smith also had two block assists and a service ace as part of her team-leading 14 points.
•Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) both finished with 11 points. Petke tallied her points on nine kills and four assisted blocks while Sullivan had eight kills, a solo block and four assisted blocks.
•Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) finished with a match-high 17 digs.
•Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) recorded 20 and 19 assists, respectively.
UNH NOTEBOOK
•Despite the loss, the 14 wins is the highest total through 20 matches in UNH program history.
•UNH pushed its set win streak to 11 before dropping the final three sets of the match.
•Tanski is No. 3 on the program's all-time digs list with 1,390. Next on the list is No. 2 Jen Williams at 1,398.
•Smith, who became the 17th UNH player to record 1,000 career points on Sept. 6, increased her total to 1,178.5. Kim Mirts-Poen ranks 10th at 1,179.
•New Hampshire has a 16-11 lifetime record against intrastate rival Dartmouth College and that includes a 12-4 advantage since 1999.
•There were eight ties and four lead changes in the opening set.
•UNH jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
•After the Big Green closed within a point three times, the Wildcats reestablished a four-point cushion of 10-6.
•Trailing 13-11, DC won three consecutive points to take its first lead of the match, 14-13.
•The teams alternated points to advance the score to 20-20, then a service ace by Macaulay put UNH back in front, 21-20.
•An attack error by the home team prompted a Dartmouth timeout, and the Big Green won the next point to close within 22-21.
•Smith's kill reestablished a two-point margin, then she served an ace and Erin Hedrick (Montvale, N.J.) ended the set with a kill.
SET 2
•New Hampshire carried momentum into the second set to build a 6-1 lead.
•Trailing 8-5, Dartmouth rallied to tie the score and then surged in front, 11-9.
•The Big Green inched ahead, 15-11, before the 'Cats rallied to level the set with a 4-0 run.
•With the score tied at 18, DC won three consecutive points to take a 21-18 lead that would not be relinquished as Dartmouth closed out the set on a 3-0 run.
SET 3
- Dartmouth won four consecutive points to take a 6-3 lead and UNH never tied the score the rest of the third set.
- Leading 11-7, the Big Green reeled off five consecutive to pull away.
- Petke combined with Sullivan for a block, then recorded back-to-back kills to propel UNH to a 5-0 lead.
- Trailing 8-4, Dartmouth won five straight points to take a 9-8 lead.
- With the score tied at 10, the Wildcats went on a 4-0 run, including a kill and block by Sullivan, to build a 14-10 advantage.
- Leading 19-17, UNH won the next point on Dartmouth's service error and then Logan Welti (Middleton, Wis.) served an ace to give the 'Cats a four-point lead.
- UNH moved within two points, 23-19, of forcing a decisive fifth set but the Big Green closed out the set and match with a 6-0 run.
