The freshman goaltender backstopped the team to a three-goal comeback Friday evening.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – University of New Hampshire freshman goaltender Nikki Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.) has been named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week by the Hockey East conference on Monday morning.
Harnett made her first collegiate appearance in net for UNH on Friday evening; she entered the game 18 minutes into the first period, with UNH trailing by three goals. Harnett stopped all 19 shots faced in the remainder of the game as her offense overcame a three-goal deficit to salvage a conference point, tying Vermont 3-3.
Harnett's first career weekly honor is UNH's third honor of the season, and all three were won by goaltenders; Her redshirt-sophomore counterpart Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) was named Defensive Player of the Week twice already in the young season.
Harnett and the Wildcats play a home game this Friday night against the University of Maine in the Border Battle presented by Buffalo Wild Wings at 6 P.M. The following Saturday they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on the Friars at 2 P.M. For tickets to UNH home games, visit UNHWildcats.com/tickets or call (603)862-4000.
