ORONO, Maine –The University of New Hampshire swimming & diving team placed 1-2-3 in eight events and won 10 of 16 events overall to defeat the University of Maine, 186-112, in Friday evening's regular-season finale at Stanley M. Wallace Pool.

UP NEXT:

UNH will compete in the America East Championships at WPI in Worcester, Mass. on Feb. 14-17. The Wildcats are the defending America East champions and are looking for their eighth title.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Maine actually led 13-4 after one event by taking first and third place in the 200-yard medley relay.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Wildcats finished 1-2-3 in the next two events – the 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle – to surge ahead, 36-19.
Sophomore Melissa Dingle (Brighton, Ontario) led the way by winning three individual events. She swept the 50 and 100 backstroke with times of 27.24 seconds and 59.05 seconds, respectively. Dingle then outraced the competition in the 50 butterfly in 26.75 seconds. She was the opening leg of the second-place 200 medley relay team.
Freshman Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany), the reigning America East Swimmer of the Week, won both individual medley races. She clocked in at 2:06.14 in the 200 IM and 59.56 seconds in the 100 IM. Metzler also placed second in the 100 breaststroke by touching the wall in 1:06.77. She helped UNH to second place in the 400 freestyle relay with a split of 53.99 seconds.
Sophomore Paige Hillis (Mississauga, Ontario) recorded a pair of first-place efforts. She was the fastest swimmer in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.33, then her mark of 1:00.25 was best in the 100 butterfly. Hillis also swam the third leg in the 400 free relay.
Sophomore Miranda Bacon (Scotia, N.Y.) had a winning time of 1:05.79 in the 100 breaststroke. She was the runner-up behind Metzler in the 200 IM (2:11.97) and was also part of the 200 medley relay.
Junior Corinne Carbone (Medway, Mass.) outdistanced herself from the competition in the 500 free; her winning time of 5:03.49 was 14 seconds faster than runner-up Brittany Moffatt (Cedar Falls, Iowa). Carbone swam to second place in the 100 IM (1:00.56). She also was the anchor leg in the 200 medley relay and first to hit the water in the 400 free relay.
Freshman Megan Carroll (Haverhill, Mass.) took top honors in the 3-meter dive with 225.07 points. Earlier in the meet, she placed third in the 1-meter (201.82).
Freshman Lauren O'Keefe (Lowell, Mass.) was runner-up in both the 1-meter (213.60) and 3-meter (212.07) dives.
Sophomore Sam Milligan (Needham, Mass.) placed second in the 50 back (28.10) and 100 back (59.85).
Freshman Cassidy Wilson (Toledo, Ohio) was the fastest Wildcat – second overall – in the 100 free (54.10). She took third place in both the 50 free (25.01) and 500 free (5:18.82), and swam the anchor leg in the 400 free relay.
Freshman Cate Wardinski (Burke, Va.) was second in the 50 free (24.93) and third in the 100 free (55.30).
Senior Vivienne El-Sibay (Munich, Germany) was runner-up in the 50 fly (26.95) and third in the 100 IM (1:02.08). She swam the third leg in the 200 medley relay.
Sophomore Emily Dolloff-Holt (Woodland Park, Colo.) raced to a pair of third-place finishes. She recorded a time of 2:12.64 in the 200 IM and 1:00.59 in the 100 fly.
