Storey's Double-Double Leads 'Cats in Loss

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) matched her career-high with 22 points and added a career-best 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team came up short in its home opener against Sacred Heart, 71-60, on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats are 0-4 on the season. They play at Northeastern on Wednesday afternoon and return home to face Bryant on Sunday 1 p.m.
Sacred Heart upped its record to 2-1.
Freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wisc.) had 11 points for UNH and made three of the team's four three-point baskets.

The Wildcats play at Northeastern on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
They face Bryant in Lundholm Gymnasium on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m.
UNH hits the road for games at Boston University on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. and at South Florida on Friday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
Storey, 6-foot-3, made 10 of her 18 shots.
She missed all of last season while rehabilitating from surgeries. Her point totals have increased in each of the four games this season thus far. She was coming off a 21-point game at Brown on Thursday night.
Storey also scored 22 points against Binghamton on Feb. 6, 2016. Her previous high in rebounds was 10, which she had reached twice. Her previous high this year was six at North Dakota State.
Her other double came in a game against Stony Brook on Jan. 4, 2017. Storey had 13 points and 10 rebounds in that one.
Brekke was three-for-eight from behind the three-point arc.
Senior Alli Gribbin (Keller, Texas) came off the bench to contribute a career-high eight rebounds and eight points, which is one shy of her career-best.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Storey had 12 points and five rebounds to lead UNH to a 23-22 lead after one period. She made six of her seven field goal attempts in the period and the 'Cats made 10 of their 17.
The Pioneers opened a 37-32 lead at the half.
Brekke had both of UNH's three-pointers in the first half and had eight points at the break.
Storey had 14 points and six rebounds in the first half.
Sacred Heart made six of its 11 three-point shots in the first half.
UNH closed to within a point at 46-45 on a Gribbin layup with 4:10 left in the third period. The Pioneers got the lead back up to 53-47 as the third ended.
Junior Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) hit a three-pointer to make it 60-54 with 6:34 to go. Sacred Heart pulled away from there.
