Pogue Leads 'Cats in Loss to Maine

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough and the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team lost to Maine, 56-46, in Lundholm Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Wildcats are 14-6 overall and Maine is 12-8. The teams are each 5-2 in America East and are tied for second place in the league. UNH is now 7-1 at home this season.
Senior forward Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) had nine points and four rebounds. Senior forward Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) had nine rebounds. Freshman guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) scored a season-high seven points. The Wildcats played without senior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) who missed the game with an illness.

HIGHLIGHTS
Pogue hit the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season and the first since Dec. 9. The 22 points were one shy of her season high.
Pogue made eight of her 12 field goals and six of her seven foul shots.
The Wildcats had a 35-30 edge in rebounds. Healy led the 'Cats on the boards and senior guard Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) had six rebounds.
UNH held Maine to a three-for-15 night in three-point shots. The Black Bears average 7.8 three-pointers a game to lead the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Maine had a 19-13 lead after one period and was up 31-26 at the half.
Pogue scored 11 points and had a couple of rebounds in the first half. The Wildcats had 18 rebounds to Maine's 10 in the first half. But they also had 11 turnovers to Maine's four.
Down by as many as 11 points in the third quarter, UNH got the Maine lead down to 43-39 at the end of the period when Fogarty hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Wildcats have rallied from behind on the fourth quarter for four of their five league wins.
A jumper by Pogue tied the game at 45-45 with 6:19 to play. But Blanca Millan scored six straight points for Maine and her team pulled away from there.
