Fogarty Rallies 'Cats to Comeback Win at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior forward Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) scored a season-high 21 points, including a 10-footer in the lane with 9.3 seconds to play, to rally the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 52-49 comeback win over Vermont on Thursday night in Patrick Gymnasium.
The Wildcats won their third straight game and improved to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in America East. They trailed 37-34 after three periods and 42-34 with 8:03 left in the game before roaring back. UNH has trailed entering the fourth quarter in three of its four league wins.
Vermont fell to 5-13 and 2-3.
Senior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) scored 10 points and iced the game with a huge defensive rebound and pair of foul shots with less than a second to play. Senior guard Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) contributed a season—high 10 rebounds.

UNH plays at Stony Brook on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Wildcats then return to Lundholm Gymnasium for a two-game homestand. They play Maine on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. and face Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. for Alumni Day and their "Spread Respect Game."

HIGHLIGHTS
The Wildcats have been behind at the half in all four of their America East wins and have trailed with a period to go in three of them.
UNH was down 42-34 two minutes into the fourth quarter and began to rally.
Senior Peyton Booth (Wadsworth, Ohio) scored on a fastbreak layup and she was fouled and made the free throw to make it 45-43 with 4:27 to play. Fogarty's 12-footer tied it at 45 and she hit another to put UNH up 47-45 with 1:28 left.
Vermont went back in front with a foul shot at 49-48 with 17.9 seconds left.
UNH had a timeout and set up Fogarty's 10-footer for 50-49 with 9.3 seconds left.
Lai pulled down the rebound at the other end and made her foul shots to finish it off.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNH led 15-6 early, but Vermont came back and was on top 17-15 after one period. The Catamounts extended the lead to 25-21 at the half.
Fogarty scored all six of UNH's points in the second period. She led the team with 10 points and had three rebounds at the half.
The Wildcats outscored Vermont 18-7 over the last eight minutes of the game.
