Petke Records Career-High 24 Kills in 3-2 Win at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) recorded a career-high 24 kills and both Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) and Emma Patlovich (Lake Bluff, Ill.) tallied double-doubles to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Sunday afternoon's 3-2 comeback victory against Stony Brook University at Pritchard Gym.
The set scores were 25-14, 25-27, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10.
Petke recorded the match-high 24 kills on a .455 hitting percentage. Smith finished with 17 kills, a .224 hitting percentage and 14 digs while Patlovich tallied 24 assists and 15 digs.
Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.) contributed 16 kills – on a .310 hitting percentage – and four blocks.
Smith and Patlovich were two of four Wildcats who finished with double digits in digs. Logan Welti (Middleton, Wis.) matched Patlovich's team high of 15 digs and Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) equaled Smith's total of 14.
Mali Jereczek (Green Bay, Wis.) finished with a team-high 31 assists. Both Jereczek and Welti had three service aces.
UNH improved to 11-13 overall and 6-4 in America East. SBU is now 16-10, 6-4.

THE DIFFERENCE
- Stony Brook smashed the ball at a .351 hitting percentage in the third set to take a 2-1 lead, but UNH stymied the Seawolves' attack in Set 4 (.188 hitting percentage) and Set 5 (.118).
SET 1
- Petke had a dominant first set with seven kills and no errors on eight swings for a .875 hitting percentage.
- With the score tied 3-3, New Hampshire won the next two points on Petke kills to take a lead that would not be relinquished.
- The 'Cats built a 10-4 lead and extended the margin to seven points, 14-7, before Stony Brook rallied within 16-13.
- UNH responded with a 4-0 spurt to keep the Seawolves at bay, and then closed the set on a 5-0 run that included three kills by Petke.
SET 2
- There were nine tie scored and five lead changes in the second set.
- UNH jumped out to a 5-1 lead and built a 9-4 advantage on back-to-back kills by Olhava and Petke.
- Stony Brook went on an 8-3 run to close within 13-12 and prompt a Wildcats' timeout. Momentum continued in favor of the Seawolves, however, who won 4 of 5 points to take a 16-14 lead.
- New Hampshire responded with a 5-1 spurt to regain the lead, 19-17.
- The teams tied at 19 through 25, but SBU closed out the set on a kill by Jordan Gels and block by the combination of Cydney Bowman and LeAnne Sakowicz.
SET 3
- Stony Brook took an early 5-2 lead and gradually pulled away to leads of 8-4 and 15-10 before pushing the advantage to 18-12.
- Trailing 22-16, UNH reeled off four points – all on kills by Petke – to trime the deficit to 22-20.
- SBU fended off the surge with consecutive kills from Maria Poole and McKyla Brooks and then captured the third set on a UNH attack error.
SET 4
- There were five ties and three lead changes in the fourth set.
- New Hampshire regained momentum by building a 4-1 lead that was extended to 7-2 and forced SBU to call a timeout.
- Trailing 9-4, the Seawolves reeled off four consecutive points to close within 9-8 and rallied to tied the score at 11.
- A kill by Molly Wotton (Dover, N.H.) put the 'Cats back in front, but SBU captured the next to points to go ahead 13-12.
- With the score tied at 14, a kill by Olhava ignited a 5-0 run that included back-to-back Welti service aces followed by consecutive kills by Petke.
- The Seawolves inched back within 19-17 and 20-18, but two more Petke kills and an SBU attack error pushed UNH's lead to 23-18
- Jereczek set up kills by Petke and Wotton to close out the fourth set, 25-20, and level the match at 2-2.
SET 5
- There were two ties – all within the first four points – an no lead changes in the race to 15 points.
- With the score tied at 2, an SBU service error gave New Hampshire a lead it would not relinquish. That point was followed by a combined block by Wotton and Petke and back-to-back aces from Jereczek to make it 6-2.
- The Seawolves trimmed the margin to 8-7, but a kill by Smith and block by Olhava gave the 'Cats a three-point lead.
- SBU closed to within one point at 10-9 and 11-10, but then Olhava's kill ignited a match-ending 4-0 run that included two SBU errors and ended on another kill by Olhava.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire improved to 24-14 against Stony Brook with its 10th consecutive win in the series.
- Petke shattered her previous career high of 14 kills established earlier this season at Binghamton University. Her 24 kills vs. SBU are the most by any 'Cat this season.
- Olhava's 16 kills were one shy of her personal best of 17 set at the 2017 Holly Young Invitational against University of Rhode Island.
- This was Smith's ninth and Patlovich's third double-double of the season.
- UNH's .279 hitting percentage was the third highest of the season.
- The Wildcats have a 5-2 record in five-set matches.
