DURHAM, N.H. – Devan Taylor (North Billerica, Mass.) recorded a goal and two assists for a career-high three points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team to Friday night's 4-1 victory against the University of Maine at the Whittemore Center.

UNH improved to 10-13-1 overall and 8-7-1 in Hockey East. Maine is now to 8-15-1, 4-11-1.

Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.) and Ali Praus (Long Lake, Minn.) also tallied multiple points for the Wildcats. Curtis finished with a goal and an assist while Praus established personal bests in both assists and points with two helpers. Taylor's two assists also matched her career high.

Hilary Cashin (Fredericton, New Brunswick) made 21 saves to improve to 9-5-1. Maine goalie Carly Jackson made double-digit saves all three periods for a total of 33.

GAME RECAP

UNH scored goals 96 seconds apart early in the second period to quickly transform a scoreless game into a 2-0 lead. Curtis corralled a loose puck in the high slot, skated toward goal and chipped a shot inside the right post at 1:15; Tori Howran (Bancroft, Ontario) set up the sequence with a pass behind the net off the end boards to Julia Fedeski (Algonquin Highlands, Ontario), who passed the puck through the neutral zone to Curtis.
Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick) gave the Wildcats a two-goal advantage at 2:51 when she shoveled a shot from the low slot into the open left side of the net. Praus, who advanced the puck from the right doorstep, and Taylor were credited with assists.
Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) extended the lead to 3-0 at 11:56 of the third period. On a faceoff to Jackson's right, Taylor drew the puck back to the slot and Schlagel ripped a shot into the upper-right corner.
Kara Washer's outstanding individual effort lifted Maine within 3-1 at 15:17. She stripped the puck in the neutral zone, sidestepped another Wildcat and skated down the slot before deking Cashin and tucking the puck inside the right post.
With Jackson pulled for the second time to give the Black Bears a skater advantage, Curtis' pass off the right half-boards found Taylor in the slot and she snapped a shot into the open cage to reestablish a three-goal lead of 4-1 with 35 seconds to play. Praus, who won possession of the puck in the right corner, tallied the secondary assist.
In the scoreless first period, UNH recorded a 10-9 shot advantage. The Wildcats went o-for-2 on the power play (two power-play shots) and Maine did not score on its only skater advantage in the opening frame.

'CAT NIPS

This marked the second time in 24 games this season the 'Cats held the opponent to less than two goals. The other time was Nov. 20 (2-1 vs. Providence College).
Howran recorded an assist for the second consecutive game. She has five helpers in her rookie season.
UNH's penalty kill was a perfect 4-for-4.
Pelletier's second-period goal was the second of the season and career for the sophomore defenseman, who is one of three team captains.
UNH's 37 shots marked the team's third highest total this season.
New Hampshire improved to 40-11-6 lifetime against Maine with a 20-5-3 home record. The Wildcats have a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) vs. the Black Bears.
