No. 24 Football Team Rallies, Celebrates With A Big Win

DURHAM – The No. 24 University of New Hampshire football opened its brand new Wildcat Stadium in grand style on Saturday night, roaring from behind to knock off Holy Cross, 39-28, in front of a loud and raucous crowd of 13,242.
Senior running back Dalton Crossan (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) ran for a career-high 199 yards on a career-high 24 carries to lead a punishing UNH rushing attack. The Wildcats rolled up 362 yards on the ground on the way to 552 total yards of offense.
Sophomore quarterback Trevor Knight (Amherst, N.H.) completed 11 of his 18 passes for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Senior defensive back Casey DeAndrade (East Bridgewater, Mass.) closed out the scoring and sealed the win with a 28-yard return of an interception for a touchdown with 2:10 left in the game.
UNH evened its record for the season at 1-1.
COMING UP
- The Wildcats travel across the state to take on Dartmouth College at Memorial Field on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
- The game is the season-opener for Dartmouth.
- The Big Green went 9-1 last season and earned a share of the Ivy League title with a 6-1 record in conference play.
- Record-setting quarterback Dalyn Williams led that team and has graduated.
- UNH leads the series 19-17-2.
- The Wildcats are 18-0-2 in the series since Dartmouth's last win in 1976.
- UNH won, 52-19, the last time the teams met on Sept. 27, 2014 in Durham.

- UNH plays William & Mary for Homecoming in its next home game on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3:30 p.m.

GAME RECAP
- The Wildcats trailed 21-6 early in the second period and outscored Holy Cross 33-7 the rest of the way.
- After falling behind 28-19 with 6:44 left in the third period, UNH scored twice in the last three minutes of the third to take the lead.
- Crossan scored UNH's first two TDs of the season on runs of 3 and 56 yards in the first half.
- He made a nice cut at the line of scrimmage and broke a couple of tackles downfield on the 56-yarder.
- The 56-yarder came one play after a Knight 51-yard TD run was called back because of a penalty.
- Crossan's previous career highs were 22 carries and 140 yards.
- Knight completed eight of his 11 passes for 84 yards in the first half.
- Sophomore receiver Neil O'Connor (Leominster, Mass.) led UNH with four catches for 56 yards.
- Sophomore receiver Rory Donovan (Canton, Mass.) caught two passes for 98 yards.
- O'Connor (eight yards) and Donovan (62 yards) caught UNH touchdown passes.
- Donovan's TD catch with 1:17 left in the third period gave UNH its first lead of the game at 32-28.
- Holy Cross quarterback Peter Pujals completed 42 of his 64 passes for 427 yards and three TDs. He threw two interceptions.
- Holy Cross had 498 yards of total offense.
'CAT NIPS
- Junior running back Trevon Bryant (St. Augustine, Fla.) rushed nine times for 79 yards and a 1-yard score.
- Sophomore Jae'Wuan Horton (Stafford, Va.) had one of two UNH quarterback sacks in the game.
- Redshirt freshman Josh Kania (Milton, Ga.) had the other.
- Redshirt freshman safety Rick Ellison (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) left the game with an injury in the first period. Ellison had a team-tying 10 tackles in the opener at San Diego State.
- Freshman Prince Smith, Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) had the second UNH interception, on the last Holy Cross play of the game.
- Legendary UNH football coach Bill Bowes was honored at halftime in recognition of his being selected into the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.
- Fans received inaugural game rally towels courtesy of Service Credit Union.
- The fans were treated to a postgame fireworks show to celebrate the stadium's opening.
