Field Hockey, Gymnastics and Women's Cross Country Record Perfect Scores
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of New Hampshire field hockey, gymnastics and women's cross country teams received a perfect score of 1,000 in the Academic Progress Rate that was released by the NCAA on Wednesday as part of its Academic Performance Program. It marked the second consecutive year all three teams accomplished that feat.
All three teams also earned NCAA Public Recognition on April 13 for posting an APR score in the top 10 percent of their respective sport. Women's cross country won a third consecutive America East title this past fall and gymnastics finished as runner-up at the EAGL Championship for the second consecutive year.
UNH's women's track & field team – another team that earned NCAA Public Recognition – was near perfect with a score of 998 that is best in the America East conference.
Football, the fifth Wildcat team to garner NCAA Public Recognition, tallied a mark of 986 for an improvement of +6. The Wildcats tied for the top mark in the CAA and, in comparison, the national average for football is 959 with a breakdown of 954 in FCS and 964 in FBS.
In fact, every UNH team scored at or above the aggregate national average of 979.
The women's ski team recorded the highest improvement among New Hampshire teams at +11 to raise its four-year APR to 995, which is fifth best in the nation; the men's ski team ranks fourth nationally at 990.
Men's cross country had the second-highest improvement of +9 to 980.
The volleyball team, winners of three straight America East regular-season and tournament titles, is tied atop the conference at 995.
Men's ice hockey has an impressive 995 that ranks second in Hockey East. The women's squad also ranks second in the league at 993.
Two other Wildcat squads rank second in America East – women's lacrosse (992) and women's swimming & diving (990).
The men's basketball team, which finished with a program-record 20 wins after winning a postseason game for the first time in history, tallied an APR of 986; the men's basketball average is 964.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all D-I sports teams nationally. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
Teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete in championships. Every UNH program scored considerably higher than the required score.
