Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week: Ruth White and Yoofi Abaka-Amuah

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Ruth White (Orono, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team and senior Yoofi Abaka-Amuah (Worcester, Mass.) of the UNH men's track and field team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on June 3.
Ruth raced to ninth place in the 10,000 meter run at the NCAA East First Round at the UK Track and Field Complex on May 28 to advance to the NCAA Championships.
By finishing in the top 12 of the 10,000m national semifinals, Ruth advances to the 10,000m national final on Thursday, June 11 at the University of Oregon. Ruth placed ninth in the 10,000m at the 2025 national championship meet to garner All-America Second Team.
Ruth finished in ninth place in this year's First Round with a season-best time of 33 minutes, 8.83 seconds – 21 seconds better than her seeded time of 33:29.85 established April 17 at the Virginia Challenge.
Ruth, who entered the East First Round seeded No. 27, surged to the front of the pack of 48 runners in the first lap and immediately pulled away from the group to build a lead of more than 100m four laps into the race with a 5:07.83 split in the first mile, which was more than 22 seconds ahead of the next runner.
Ruth was in third place – less than a second behind second place – with a time of 20:59.35 through 6,400m (four miles); that time was within three seconds of the leader. She continued to run directly behind in the next mile as the duo had a time of 26:16.36 through 8,000m.
Ruth entered the bell lap in seventh place and ran a split of 1:23.47 in the final lap to finish in ninth place.
Yoofi placed 22nd in the shot put and 39th in the hammer at the NCAA East First Round, which were held at the University of Kentucky, on May 27. He was the only one of the five Wildcats who competed in two events at the meet.
Yoofi, who entered the First Round ranked 13th in the East in the shot put and competed in the third flight, placed 22nd in a field of 48 competitors with a top mark of 18.09 meters (59 feet, 4.25 inches) in the second round. He recorded a throw of 17.60m on his first attempt and fouled on the third throw to cap his 2026 season and career.
This was the second consecutive year Yoofi competed at the outdoor First Round. He finished 37th in the shot put in 2025.
