Women's Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Gymnastics and Women's Track Place in Top 10 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS – A total of five University of New Hampshire athletic teams earned NCAA Public Recognition for posting a multi-year Academic Progress Rate score in the top 10 percent of their respective sport. The NCAA made the announcement Wednesday as part of its Academic Performance Program.
The women's cross country, field hockey, and gymnastics programs were honored for the second consecutive year. Football and women's track are the other distinguished UNH teams.
Prior to this year, women's track was separated into indoor track and outdoor track, and the Wildcats' women's indoor track team was honored each of the previous four years and 9 of 10; the women's outdoor track team had been recognized seven of the previous 10 years.
UNH's gymnastics team has earned NCAA Public Recognition six of the past seven years.
New Hampshire's football team is one of 13 teams in the FCS – and one of two in the CAA conference – to receive this honor.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced April 20.
