Bryant Posts Career-Best Day, But No. 21 'Cats Fall

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior running back Trevon Bryant (St. Augustine, Fla.) ran for a career-high 112 yards and sophomore quarterback Trevor Knight (Amherst, N.H.) passed for a pair of touchdowns, but it was not enough and the No. 21 University of New Hampshire football team lost to the University at Albany, 36-25, in front of 7,012 fans in Wildcat Stadium on Saturday.
The Wildcats dropped to 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Albany improved to 6-4 and 3-4.
UNH closes out the regular season with a game at Maine on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m.
Albany sophomore running back Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks carried 39 times for a school record 298 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Bryant had 18 carries and scored a UNH touchdown on a 3-yard run late in the first half. Knight completed 19 of his 33 passes for 176 yards and the two scores.
COMING UP
- The Wildcats close out the regular season at Maine on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m.
- Maine won at Stony Brook, 27-21, on Saturday afternoon.
- The Black Bears, like New Hampshire, are 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the league.
- Both teams will look to get to 7-4 to stay in contention for a possible spot in the NCAA Division I FCS tournament.
1st QUARTER
- Senior running back Dalton Crossan (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored the only TD of the period on an 18-yard pass from Knight.
- Knight ran for a two-point conversion
- Crossan left the game later in the period with an injury.
2ND QUARTER
- Knight pushed the lead to 15-0 with an 8-yard TD pass to sophomore Rory Donovan (Canton, Mass.) with 8:12 left.
- Bryant's 3-yard TD upped it 22-0 with 2:56 left in the half.
- Jordan Crockett scored on an 11-yard pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Will Brunson with 34 seconds left to cut the lead to 22-7.
3RD QUARTER
- The Great Danes outscored UNH 15-3 in the third quarter to enter the fourth down 25-22.
- Ibitokun-Hanks scored his first TD on a 1-yard run with 13:18 left in the period.
- Junior Morgan Ellman (Scotch Plains, N.J.) upped UNH's lead to 25-14 with a 20-yard field goal with 8:38 left in the period.
- Ibitokun-Hanks scored on a 2-yard run with 1:14 left in the quarter.
4TH QUARTER
- Albany scored a pair of touchdowns for the only points of the fourth quarter.
- Brunson, making his first start, scored the first on a 4-yard run to give Albany its first lead at 29-25 with 8:32 left.
- Ibitokun-Hanks closed the scoring with a 13-yard run on a 4th and 1 play with 3:19 to go.
'CAT NIPS
- The Wildcats had 376 yards of total offense, 194 passing and 182 rushing.
- Ibitokun-Hanks had his 298 yards. Albany as a team, thanks in part to a couple of knee-downs in the closing minute, had 295 rushing yards as a team.
- Albany had 441 yards of total offense.
- Crossan rushed five times for 37 yards and caught three passes for 39 yards and the score before leaving the game with concussion issues.
- The TD reception was his third of the season.
- Donovan led the Wildcats with seven catches for 79 yards.
- The touchdown catch was his third of the season.
- Freshman Pop Lacey (Reading, Pa.) led the Wildcats with nine tackles.
- Senior defensive end Cam Shorey (Calais, Maine) had UNH's lone quarterback sack.
- Shorey also forced a fumble and had five tackles total.
- Redshirt freshman Michael Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H.) also forced a fumble.
- Albany, which leads the CAA in turnover margin, did not lose a fumble or interception.
- Knight was intercepted once for UNH's lone turnover.
