Balanced Team Effort Produces 3-0 Win at Delaware State

Smith Records Match-High Nine Kills, .562 Hitting Percentage
DOVER, Del. – Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) recorded a match-high nine kills on the strength of a .562 hitting percentage to propel the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Friday night's 3-0 victory against Delaware State University at Memorial Hall.
Smith's other stats included two service aces, two blocks and two digs. She recorded the lofty .562 hitting percentage with nine kills and no errors on 16 total attacks.
UNH improved to 12-10 overall with its sixth straight-set victory of the season. Delaware State is winless in 23 matches.

UNH overmatched the hosts with a season-high .390 hitting percentage in comparison to DSU's mark of -.012 (more errors than kills). The Wildcats boasted an astronomical .500 hitting percentage in Set 2 with 11 kills and no errors on 22 total attacks.

UNH dominated from the first point – a kill by Muses – and jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Hornets closed within 9-6 before the Wildcats won four consecutive points to create some separation at 13-6. The margin ballooned to nine points, 17-8, but the home team responded with a 4-0 run to close within 17-12. Three straight UNH points quelled the hopes of a comeback, and the 'Cats closed the set, 25-14, with four consecutive points.

Delaware State held leads of 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3, but that's when New Hampshire went on a 6-0 run to take a commanding 10-4 advantage. DSU only briefly halted UNH's onslaught as the 'Cats won five more consecutive points to extend the margin to double digits, 15-5. The score advanced to 19-11 before another 6-0 spurt brought Set 2 to an end, 25-11.

The Hornets won the first point of the set but never led again. UNH, now with Jereczek directing the offense, responded with back-to-back points, then with the score tied at 2, the 'Cats built a 7-2 advantage. New Hampshire led 18-12 and closed the set – and match – on a 7-3 run.
