SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Lauren
Laquerre (Concord, N.H.) registered a match-high 12 kills
to lift the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-1
win over Bryant University on Tuesday night at Chace Center. The
set scores were 25-15, 19-25, 25-23 and 25-15.
The Wildcats improve to 3-7 and have now won two of their last
three matches. The Bulldogs fall to 2-7 with the loss.
In addition to Laquerre, classmate Pauline Acres
(Manhattan Beach, Calif.) notched 10 kills and five digs.
Justine Elliott (Mitchellville, Md.) garnered
eight kills, hit at a .375 clip and posted a team-high five blocks.
Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif.) had eight
kills and three blocks, while Kirsten Bates
(Calgary, Alberta) tallied seven kills and 12 digs in just two sets
in her first match back after injury. Kate Uitti
(Pinckney, Mich.) paced the Wildcat offense with 38 assists, while
defensively Sara Heldman (Greenwood, Ind.) and
Jayde Huxtable (St. Charles, Ill.) tallied 16 and
12 digs, respectively.
New Hampshire captured the first set by a 10-point margin. The
Wildcats had 13 kills in the set and hit at a .242 clip. In the
second set, Bryant grabbed an early lead and went on to earn the
six-point victory. The Bulldogs had a team-best 12 kills in the set
and took advantage of eight Wildcat errors. In the third set, UNH
went out to a big lead and held off a late charge from Bryant for
the two-point win. The 'Cats put up match-bests in kills (17)
and hitting percentage (.302) in the fourth and final set, a
10-point victory.
The 'Cats return home Sept. 18-19 for the second-annual Holly
Young Invitational. Wyoming, Arizona State and Harvard make up the
field in this year's tournament. New Hampshire plays host to
Wyoming on Friday night (7 p.m.) and Harvard (12:30 p.m.) and
Arizona State (7 p.m.) on Saturday. Saturday's match against
Arizona State is UNH's annual “Pack the Arena”
match when the Wildcats will attempt to break the school's
single-match attendance record of over 2,400. Tickets to the
