Service Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week; Grace Mahon and Michael Simpson

DURHAM, N.H. - Senior Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.) of the University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team and senior Michael Simpson (London, Ontario) of the UNH men's ice hockey team were named Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on Oct.19.

Grace recorded two individual victories to help lead the Wildcats to a 164-136 win over Vermont in their home-opening meet at Swasey Pool on Oct. 17. The senior captain won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2 minutes, 4:05 seconds, as well as the 100-yard butterfly in 55.70 seconds.

Grace also contributed to UNH's victory in the 400-freestyle relay as well as placing second in the 200-yard medley relay. Her two individual wins, second place finisher and group relay win helped the Wildcats secure the team win.

UNH visits Central Connecticut State for a two-day meet Oct. 22-23 at the Jack Suydam Natatorium. The Wildcats return home for a Halloween tri-meet against Siena and Merrimack on Saturday, Oct. 31, starting at 11am. The first 100 fans will receive free team posters!

Grace Mahon races at the Oct. 17, 2026 meet vs Vermont

Michael had an outstanding performance in net, going 2-0-0 on the weekend while allowing just two goals and making 32 saves to backstop UNH to a sweep at Colgate. He recorded a 1.00 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage, including his first collegiate shutout.

Michael made 17 saves in Friday's Oct.16, 5-2 win at Colgate before recording 15 saves in Saturday's Oct.17, 2-0 victory over the Raiders to secure the shutout and help UNH sweep the two-game series.

The Wildcats home-opening weekend will be against No. 3 Michigan State on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24 at 7 p.m. Friday night's game presented by Northeast Delta Dental will feature Bruins national anthem performer Todd Angilly and a magnet schedule giveaway. Saturday will be Fall Fest, presented by Fidium Fiber, which will take place before the game from 4-6 p.m. and include food trucks, games and entertainment, as well as the opportunity for fans to join the Beast of the East Pep Band in welcoming the Wildcats as they make their way into the Whittemore Center before taking the ice.
