Ashley Tennant was hired as women's volleyball assistant coach June 5, 2019.
Tennant, a four-year letterwinner at the University of Rhode Island, brought 11 years of coaching experience dating back to the Junior Spikers of Huntington Beach Camp in June 2008.
Ashley was a men’s volleyball assistant coach at University of Mount Olive for the 2019 season; led by a first-year staff, the team finished fourth in the Conference Carolinas and advanced to the quarterfinals. Her responsibilities included practice plans, game analysis and scouting reports.
The Southern Cal native was also a men’s assistant coach at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in the 2018 season, and helped that squad maintain a top-10 national ranking throughout the year.
Prior to joining the UCSC staff, she coached the Aptos High School (Aptos, Calif.) girls varsity volleyball team from July 2016 to May 2018. In 2016, Tennant was voted Coach of the Year after leading Aptos to an undefeated league record and regional final appearance. She was girls head coach at San Lorenzo Valley High School before her successful stint at Aptos, and she coached the SLVHS boys’ team for four years (during both her girls coaching stints at San Lorenzo and Aptos).
Tennant also has eight years experience coaching club teams. At the Goldenwest Volleyball Club (Anaheim, Calif.) from January 2010 to July 2014, she was an assistant coach working with girls aged 13-18.
After receiving her master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University (Irvine, Calif.), Tennant served as head coach of the boys 14’s and girls 14-17’s teams at Mountain View Volleyball Club (Sunnyvale, Calif.) from August 2014 to May 2018. She was club director and head coach at Main Beach Volleyball Club from August 2015 to January 2018.
Tennant earned a Kinesiology degree from URI in May 2013. She was the Rams’ libero and captained the team as a senior.
