Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week: Emma Converse and Joquez Smith

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman Emma Converse (San Antonio, Texas) of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team and senior Joquez Smith (Tampa, Fla.) of the UNH football team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on Sept. 15.
Emma was named to the East Coast Challenge All-Tournament Team earlier this week for her performance against Fairleigh Dickinson, UConn and Yale at the tourney, which was held Sept. 11-12 at UConn.
Emma paced the Wildcats in kills with a three-match total of 39 (3.90 per set) that was highlighted by 18 against FDU and 13 vs. UConn. Her other stats included eight service aces, including a career-high five vs. Fairleigh Dickinson, 18 digs, one solo block, a block assist and 48.5 points.
UNH returns to action Sept. 18 at the Clemson Tournament with matches against Furman (12pm) and Clemson (6pm). The Wildcats' next home match is also the America East conference opener Sept. 27 (1pm) against Binghamton.
Joquez was honored as both CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week and recipient of the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award following his 122-yard, three-touchdown effort that propelled UNH to a 42-35 win against Stonehill at Wildcat Stadium on Sept. 12.
Joquez's burst up the middle for a 26-yard touchdown gave the Wildcats a 21-14 lead at 5:55 of the second quarter. He broke through the middle of the line and raced down the left sideline for a 34-yard score to extend UNH's lead to 35-21at 2:18 of the third quarter. Smith bounced a run around the left side for a three-yard TD to put the 'Cats ahead 42-28 at 11:06 of the fourth quarter.
The first-year Wildcats became the first UNH player to score three rushing touchdowns in a game since Nov. 26, 2022, when Dylan Laube had three vs. Fordham.
