Service Credit Union Student Athlete of the Week: Ruth White and Liam McGovern

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Ruth White (Orono, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team and senior Liam McGovern (North Kingstown, R.I.) of the UNH men's track and field team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on April. 14.

Ruth broke her own UNH women's track & field record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16 minutes, 3.28 seconds finishing fourth in the competition. She shattered her previous time of 16 minutes, 22.78seconds.

Ruth was named the America East Female Track Performer of the Week for her record-breaking weekend at the Friar Invitational, which was held April 10 at Providence College's Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field.

The UNH women's track & field team returns to action April 17-18 at the George Davis Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell. The next home meet is the Wildcat Invitational on April 24-25, which will also be Senior Day.

Liam was dominant in the men's hammer throw this past weekend at the SNHU Ed Daniels Classic, which was held April 11 at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium. He earned gold as he led the field of 16 competitors in all six rounds. His winning toss came in at 64.31m (211-0 feet) and it is the longest toss by anyone in America East this season.

Liam was followed at the podium by teammates Caden Zalenski (Milford, N.H.) and Jack Washmen (Nashua, N.H.), who finished second and third respectively. The team went into the weekend ranked 4th nationally in the hammer squad.

The UNH men's track & field team returns to action April 17-18 with the George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell. The next home meet- which will be Senior Day- will be held on April 24- 25.
