Getting to Know: Nicole Poulakis

Get to know junior forward Nicole Poulakis of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team.
Nicole, or Pooks as some know her, is from the small town of Ajax, Ontario. Nicole shared that her favorite part of her hometown is being close to family.
Nicole comes from a big, close-knit family that shares her love for sports and has supported her throughout her athletic career.
"My mom and dad have been incredibly involved in my athletic journey, never missing a chance to cheer on my team. They've even driven 10 hours to New Hampshire almost every weekend during the season, just to watch us play," Nicole said. "I also have an older brother who was my biggest competition growing up."
Nicole credits her parents for helping her become the person she is today and considers them to be her biggest inspirations.
"They have always pushed me to be my best and have done everything in their power to help me succeed," Nicole said.
Nicole has been playing field hockey for seven years. She began in high school after receiving some encouragement from her dad.
"Growing up as a multisport athlete, playing hockey and soccer, I developed the skills that helped me get into field hockey," Nicole said.
Outside of field hockey, Nicole loves traveling with friends and family, and playing ice hockey and soccer.
Some fun facts about Nicole are that she is a Montreal Canadiens fan, she currently trains with the Canadian Women's National Team, and she can't live without her cat, Mittens.
In the future, Nicole shared that her dream job would be working in sports marketing.
"I am passionate about sports and enjoy the idea of combining it with creativity and marketing to engage fans and promote teams or events," Nicole explained. "I hope to work with a professional team in the future."
At UNH, Nicole said her favorite part about her experience thus far is the friendships that she has made.
"My favorite part about being at UNH is the incredible friendships I've made. Whether through sports or not, my friends have made my time here truly unforgettable," Nicole said.
Nicole encourages all incoming UNH students to live in the moment during their time here.
"Take it all in and enjoy all the little things, the four years fly by," Nicole said.
