Men’s Hockey Takes Game 1 of Border Battle with 1-0 Win at #11 Maine

MacDonald scores game winner and Chauvette posts second straight shutout
ORONO, Maine – Sophomore forward Cam MacDonald (Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia) scored the game winner and senior goalie Kyle Chauvette (Goffstown, N.H.) made 21 saves to record his second straight shutout as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated No. 11 Maine, 1-0, on Friday night at Alfond Arena in Hockey East action.
The Wildcats, who have won three consecutive games, improve to 8-7-0 (4-4-0 Hockey East), while the Black Bears fall to 8-6-1 (5-4-0 Hockey East).

- The Wildcats will conclude the two-game Border Battle series at Maine on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After the first two periods went scoreless, MacDonald gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead when he stole the puck in the Maine zone and went on a breakaway firing a shot over the glove of Mathis Rousseau at 4:14 of the third period.
- With 1:55 remaining in the third period the Black Bears went with an empty net but UNH kept Maine off the scoreboard for the 1-0 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Maine outshot UNH, 21-14
- The Wildcats went 0-1 on the man-advantage and the Black Bears went 0-2.
- Chauvette posted 21 saves to earn the win, while Rousseau made 13 saves for Maine.

- The goal by MacDonald was his second game winner of the season which ties for the team lead. He now has four goals on the year.
- This is the 20th time the Wildcats have won at Alfond Arena. The last UNH win at Maine was by a 5-2 score on Feb. 19, 2022.
