Service Credit Union Student- Athletes of the Week: Addison Spitz and Jacob Newcombe

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Addison Spitz (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) of the UNH women's hockey team and freshman Jacob Newcombe (Sambro, Nova Scotia) of the UNH men's hockey team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on Dec.1.
Addison scored and assisted twice in the upset win over 11th-ranked Brown this past Sunday, Nov. 30. Her first assist came at a crucial moment early in the second period when she fired a shot from the right faceoff dot, taking a bounce off Brown goalie Anya Zupkofska's right pad and finding the stick of Kelly Harty (Billerica, Mass.), who scored tying it up 1-1.
Addison also assisted late in the game finding Alyson Hush (Scarborough, Ontario) to make it 3-1 in the third period. Addison's power-play goal with a minute remaining gave the Wildcats a 4-1 victory.
The Wildcats return to action Tuesday, Dec. 2, when UNH travels to Boston to take on No. 7 Northeastern (13-3-0, 9-0-0 HEA) for a 6pm puck drop at Matthews Arena. The Wildcats return to the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on Friday, Dec. 5, when UNH hosts Maine for a 6pm puck drop in the White Out the Whitt Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle. Jacob scored the first two goals of the game as the Wildcats defeated Bentley on the road, 3-0, on Nov. 29. This was the first time in his career that he has posted a multiple-goal game and was also the first time he scored a game winner. Jacob's first goal came at 13:19 in the first period when he knocked in a rebound off a shot by Brendan Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.) for the power-play goal, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. His second goal came at 14:15 in the third period when he netted a one-timer from the slot off a pass by Fitzgerald.
Next up for the 'Cats is a two-game Border Battle series at Maine (Dec. 5-6) presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. UNH will then return to the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on Sunday, Dec. 14 versus Granite State rival Dartmouth at 4pm as fans can Skate with the 'Cats after the game.
