Wildcats Drop Conference Opener to UMass Lowell 82-75

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell in the conference opener to UMass Lowell, 82-75 on Saturday afternoon from Lundholm Gym.
Senior forward Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn) recorded his team leading eighth double double with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
The Wildcats' record falls to 8-6 (0-1 AE) and UMass Lowell's improves to 10-4 (1-0 AE).

FIRST HALF:
· Max Brooks of UMass Lowell started the scoring, and the River Hawks went on a 13-6 run, taking an early seven-point lead.
· With UMass Lowell leading 17-10, a string of Wildcat three pointers from grad student forward Jaxson Baker (Phoenix Ariz.), Daniels and grad student guard Naim Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa.) brought the 'Cats back midway through the half.
· A layup from redshirt freshman forward Promise Opurum (New Rochelle, N.Y.) cut the River Hawk deficit to one, 22-21 with 6:35 remaining, immediately followed by a layup from sophomore guard Christian Moore (Virginia Beach, Va.) to take a 23-22 lead.
· Junior guard Ahmad Robinson (West Orange, N.J.) forced the ball loose from a UMass Lowell player and went down the court with a quick pass and layup from junior forward Trey Woodyard (London, Ohio). Woodyard was fouled on the play for a successful and one, giving the Wildcats a 28-24 lead with 3:34 left in the half.
SECOND HALF:
· The 'Cats came out hot draining two quick layups, but the River Hawks responded by forcing three turnovers and going on a 17-5 run taking a 48-39 lead.
· UNH closed in on the UML lead, but the River Hawks persisted taking an eleven-point lead, 55-44 with 12:45 remaining.
· The Wildcats kept the score within ten points throughout the half, but UMass Lowell secured the 82-75 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· The first half saw ten lead changes beyond the two teams with UMass Lowell taking the lead to halftime, 31-30.
· Daniels recorded his team leading seventh double double in the contest.
· Robinson drained 18 points for the Wildcats, seven of which were successful free throws.
