DURHAM, N.H. – Dave and Kristine Mitchell '91 were honored as Donors of the Game during our Sept. 17 football game against North Carolina Central University at Wildcat Stadium.
Kristine, class of 1991 and a former diver for the Wildcats, and Dave are longtime supporters of UNH Athletics. This marks their 11th consecutive year of making an annual fund gift to UNH and 30 total years of supporting the Wildcats. Their annual support of the 'Joan and Douglas Murphy Football Scholarship' benefits a member of the football team each year. The scholarship was created in part to celebrate the life of Kristine's mother, Joan Murphy '65, and commemorate the UNH football experience of Kristine's father, Douglas Murphy '66.
The support of Dave and Kristine over the years has been unmatched, and the chance to highlight them and learn more about their passion for UNH and philanthropy was exciting.
Kristine described her love of her alma mater by noting, "UNH is my home, it's truly like coming home – it's always felt like an honor to be a student who went to UNH, and I'm so proud to be a Wildcat."
When asked what advice she would give to alumni and supporters of UNH who want to get involved and give back, she explained, "If you want to give, just know it doesn't have to be a lot – small acts of giving are important, too – and the way to stay motivated to give is to continue to be a part of the community. Come back to campus to experience events and connect with your friends and loved ones."
Dave noted their philosophy on giving and being motivated by "paying it forward."
"The education piece plays a huge role in why we choose to give back," he said. "We're in a position to be able to give, and others were able to do that for us. To be able to give and help someone receive a scholarship for their education, and then to watch that student-athlete play each season... paying it forward and giving it back is the least we can do."
UNH Athletics is grateful for the loyalty, commitment and unwavering support from Dave and Kristine Mitchell, as well as all supporters of the Wildcats. Your support, no matter the amount, has a tremendous impact on our student-athletes and their ability to achieve their athletic and academic goals.
