60 Percent of UNH Student-Athletes Named to Commissioner's Honor Roll
BOSTON – A total of 245 University of New Hampshire student-athletes were named to the 2021-22 America East Academic Honor Roll. Of those, 185 attained Commissioner's Honor Roll status – including 56 Wildcats with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average – and 61 made the Academic Honor Roll.
Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who recorded a GPA of 3.50 or higher, and those with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 are named to the Honor Roll. The qualifying GPA is the semester in which that sport's conference championship is played.
Sixty percent of UNH student-athletes earned Commissioner's Roll recognition and a total of 79 percent of UNH student-athletes recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher. New Hampshire's numbers were higher than those of the entire conference, which were 48 percent Commissioner's Honor Roll and 75 percent Honor Roll.
The women's track & field team had the highest number of UNH representatives on the Honor Roll (43), which included 36 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll; that calculates to 88 percent receiving an academic honor and 73 percent on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The women's cross country team was UNH's squad with the highest percentage of student-athletes on the Honor Roll at 91 percent. Both the lacrosse and volleyball teams had 90 percent representation. Women's track & field (88%), women's soccer (85%), women's basketball (81%), men's soccer (81%) and swimming & diving (81%) also placed more than 80 percent of its student-athletes on the Honor Roll.
Volleyball boasted the Wildcats' highest percentage of players on the Commissioner's Honor Roll with 15 of 20 making the grade – that's 75 percent. They were followed closely by women's track & field (73%), swimming & diving (71%), lacrosse (70%) and women's basketball (69%).
Overall, 2,523 America East student-athletes earned Academic Honor Roll in 2021-22 and this marked the 17th consecutive year America East student-athletes have averaged at least a 3.0 GPA.
America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country, which honors over two-thirds of its student-athletes for their success in the classroom, including its sports Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic honorees, Presidential Scholar-Athletes and its Honor Roll Elite 18 recipients.
New Hampshire received a number of other America East academic accolades in the 2021-22 year, including the Walter Harrison Academic Cup for recording the highest school GPA. Grad student Adam Savill (Manchester, England) was named the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as well as the Man of the Year and Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Senior Anna Metzler (Regensberg, Germany) was the Women's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third consecutive year and sophomore Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) was named the America East Women's Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Thirteen Wildcats were recognized as an America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete for compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher as an undergraduate, receiving an undergraduate degree in Spring 2022 and attending UNH for a minimum of two years.
