DURHAM, N.H. -- Senior Lauren Quann (Pictou, Nova Scotia) of the women's track and field team and freshman goalkeeper Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) of the lacrosse team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on March 28.
Lauren competed on the opening day of the Raleigh Relays on Thursday afternoon at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility on the campus of North Carolina State University. The meet included teams from across the country, including a number of Power-5 schools.
Lauren notched an 11th place finish in the javelin with a throw of 145-feet, 7 inches at the meet among 57 student-athletes competing in the event.
The UNH track & field team will have a split squad the weekend of April 1-2. Some Wildcats will compete at the Colonial Relays, which are held at the College of William & Mary on April 1-2, while the majority of the 'Cats will compete at home for the Wildcat Invitational 1 at the Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility on April 2.
Maria went 1-0 with a 7.00 GAA and .562 save percentage last week. She recorded nine saves and yielded seven goals to backbone UNH to a 12-7 victory against UMass Lowell in the Wildcats' conference opener on March 26 at Wildcat Stadium. She was also credited with one ground ball and held the River Hawks scoreless the final 12 minutes, 24 seconds of the game.
With UNH leading 8-5, Maria made a save on a close-range shot with 2:37 remaining in the third quarter to preserve the Wildcats' three-goal lead heading into the final frame. She once again kept UML at arm's length with another save at 10:16 of the fourth quarter that kept UNH's lead at 10-7.
This was Maria's third start in a row. She is 2-1 in this stretch. UNH, winners of four of its last five games, improved to 6-4 overall by winning its America East conference opener.
New Hampshire returns to action April 6 vs. UAlbany. The game time is 2 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
