DURHAM, N.H. – Sean Lehane (Milford, Mass.), a sophomore punter on the 19th-ranked University of New Hampshire football team, was named both the FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week by Stats Perform and the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
Lehane's outstanding punting helped then-No 25 UNH defeat then-No. 21 Elon, 40-22, in front of a Family Weekend crowd of 14,137 at Wildcat Stadium on Oct. 22.
Lehane averaged 44.8 yards on five punts and dropped four of them inside the 10-yard line. His first four punts pinned the Phoenix at the 1-yard line, 4-yard line, 1-yard line and 7-yard line. The punt to the Elon 4 led to a safety that gave the Wildcats a 23-7 lead at 2:35 of the second quarter. Lehane also had two punts over 50 yards, including a long of 56.
Lehane is averaging 41.1 yards per punt for the season. New Hampshire is ranked No. 11 in the nation and second in the CAA in net punting at 39.65.
UNH returns to action Nov. 5 at No. 17/20 University of Richmond. The Wildcats' next home game is Senior Day on Nov. 12 against No. 18/17 University of Rhode Island; purchase tickets online by CLICKING HERE, calling (603) 862-4000 or visiting the Whittemore Center Ticket Office.
