DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire Department of Athletics announced a record-breaking total impact of almost $900,000 for its 20 athletic teams and 530 Wildcat student-athletes during The (603) Challenge, the University's annual fundraising event that ran from April 9-13.
The Wildcats raised a total of $483,190 from 3,416 donors, which were both new University records in addition to $238,500 in area challenge monies, as well as $173,630 in matching funds earned for a grand total of $895,320.
All 10 Wildcat programs who had area challenges met their donors goals to unlock additional funds, which were given by generous underwriters.
UNH Athletics' efforts accounted for 34 percent of the $2.65 million raised by the UNH community.
"We are humbled by the support of Wildcat alumni and supporters," said UNH Director of Athletics Marty Scarano. "This support will go a long way to our commitment to provide a first-rate experience for all UNH student-athletes. I can't stress enough that this success is a direct reflection of the hard work of our staff, coaches and student-athletes throughout this very challenging year."
The Wildcat football team led the way posting 577 donors for $174,415, while the UNH men's soccer program was second with $157,922 with just over 300 donors. The skiing program led in total donors with 677 for a total of $148,336.
The women's swimming and diving program registered 332 donors for $62,027, while UNH women's basketball under the guidance of first-year head coach Kelsey Hogan showed a 50% increase in fundraising efforts from a season ago with 142 donors for $46,553.
The gifts made during The (603) Challenge will directly impact programmatic needs including operational budgets, team travel enhancements, locker room and equipment upgrades, and much more.
There is still time to make a gift to positively impact UNH student-athlete experiences prior to June 30 by visiting www.unh.edu/give.
