BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team was picked fourth in the America East preseason coaches' poll, which was announced on Wednesday afternoon by the conference office.
UNH was picked fourth for the second consecutive year, garnering 24 points in the poll. The Wildcats finished in second place in 2019 with a 7-3 record in America East play.
The Wildcats return All-Conference selection junior middle blocker Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.), as well as 2019 All-Rookie honorees, right side hitter Erin Hedrick (Montvale, N.J.) and setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.).
"At this point in the preseason, our team is striving to get better every day on and off the court, we don't put too much stock in preseason polls," said UNH Head Coach Christopher Feliciano. In 2019, we were picked fourth and we finished second, so we are up for the challenge once again. We are more focused on coming together as a team and putting our best effort forward to represent UNH as a whole. While we graduated five outstanding student-athletes last year, we added a lot of talent with the 2020 class. That coupled with tremendous returning group of athletes from 2019 it should make for a surprising year."
UAlbany was picked to win the league with 33 points and four first-place votes, followed by Hartford with three first-place tallies. Stony Brook was picked third with 27 points and rounding out the field after the Wildcats was UMBC (17), Binghamton (10) and NJIT (8).
The America East schedule features a double round-robin schedule (12 matches) starting February 28 and ending on March 29 with the top two teams qualifying for the America East Championship match on April 4.
The Wildcats open their spring season at home against Merrimack on Tuesday, February 23 at. Lundholm Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
