DURHAM, N.H. – Steve Greiner was honored as UNH Athletics "Donors of the Game" during last Saturday's football game against the University of Richmond at Wildcat Stadium.
Steve's impact and dedication to UNH Athletics has spanned over two decades. Not only is he present and cheering from the crowd each week, as he's been a longtime season ticket holder for both football and men's hockey, but he's chosen to donate his time and support UNH Athletics as a volunteer as well. Steve's volunteer work with the hockey program has been felt immensely over the course of 15 years, and has included holding positions such as the chairman of the UNH Men's Hockey Golf Tournament. In addition to his volunteer opportunities, he's also been supportive of the men's hockey program in the form of an annual gift for nearly 30 years. However, this past summer Steve generously created an endowed Athletics Scholarship to benefit the men's hockey student-athletes and the program as a whole.
Steve's journey to connecting with UNH Athletics was all by chance and interest, as he started volunteering shortly after attending a hockey game with a friend of his. Volunteering with a program that's close and tight-knit is one of his favorite aspects.
"I'm able to talk with Marty [Scarano], the coaches check in on me, it's really unbelievable," Greiner said. "It really is like being a part of a big family – getting to watch the people who work here develop these student-athletes into good people, not just good student-athletes, that's really the best part of it all.
"The most important thing you can do, and truly the only thing you can do, is to make decisions and choices that leave the world a better place than when you got here – giving back and donating my time is the least of what I can do... We don't do it for the praise, we do it because it's the right thing to do," Greiner added.
UNH Athletics is grateful for the loyalty, commitment and unwavering support from Steve Greiner and his family, as well as all supporters of the Wildcats. Your support, no matter the amount, has a tremendous impact on our student-athletes and their ability to achieve their athletic and academic goals.
