STORRS, Conn.  – UConn's Carter Turnbull completed a hat trick with a game-winning goal in overtime as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to UConn, 6-5, on Friday afternoon at Freitas Ice Forum. Sophomore forward Lucas Herrmann (Lancaster, N.Y.) and freshman defenseman Luke Reid (Warman, Saskatchewan) each posted their first career goal.
 
The Wildcats are now 3-6-1 (3-6-1 Hockey East), while ther Huskies improve to 4-5-1 (4-5-1 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- At 4:15 of the first period, Herrmann netted his first goal of his career to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead. Herrmann and freshman forward Carson Richels (Ham Lake, Minn.) were on a two-on-one and Herrmann ripped it home. Junior forward Eric Esposito (West Haven, Conn.) also posted an assist on the goal.
- Turnbull found the back of the net for the Huskies on the power play, tying the game 1-1 at 7:10.
- Then Reid wristed a shot from the point on the power play and buried the puck at 9:59 to give the 'Cats a 2-1 lead in the first. Herrmann and senior Kohei Sato (Nishitokyo, Japan) posted assists on the goal.
- Vladislav Firstov buried a goal at 14:48 to tie the game once again.
- Turnbull scored his second goal of the game to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead at 18:28.
- Junior forward Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) one-timed a shot off a pass from senior forward Patrick Grasso (Ankeny, Iowa) to the back of the net at 19:07 on the power play to tie the game 3-3. Sophomore defenseman Kalle Eriksson (Leksand, Sweden) posted the secondary assist on the goal.
- UConn outshot UNH 14-8 in the first period. The Wildcats were 2-3 on the power play as the Huskies went 1-2.
- Firstov buried his second goal of the game at 2:47 on the power play to give the Huskies a 4-3 lead in the second.
- UNH outshot UConn by a 16-10 margin while the Wildcats went 0-1 on the power play and the Huskies went 1-2.
- Jonny Evans poked the puck to the back of the net at 3:05 to extend the Huskies' lead to 5-3 in the third period.
- Junior defenseman Ryan Verrier (Reading, Mass.) fired a wrist shot to the back of the net at 15:22 of the third to cut UConn's lead in half, 5-4. Junior defenseman Will MacKinnon (Plymouth, Mich.) and Pierson were able to post assists on the goal.
- UNH pulled senior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) at 17:56 in exchange for an extra attacker.
- Junior forward Filip Engarås (Stockholm, Sweden) tied the game at 5-5 with the extra attacker as he picked up the puck off a rebound in front of the net and buried it at 19:25.
- Turnbull recorded the hat trick as he scored the game winning goal at 0:57 of overtime.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Robinson made 28 saves, while Tomas Vomacka also recorded 28.
- Connecticut outshot New Hampshire, 34-33.
- The Wildcats and Huskies both went 2-4 on the power play.
- Five different Wildcats scored a goal.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- UNH is 2-2-1 this season in overtime.
- Herrmann and Reid each scored their first collegiate goal, while Richels posted his first collegiate point with an assist.
- Pierson, Herrmann and Verrier each tallied one goal and one assist for two points. Pierson now has 11 career multi-point games, while this was the second for Herrmann and the first for Verrier.
- Pierson has scored three goals this season, all against the Huskies at Freitas Ice Forum.
- This was only the second time these two teams have met at Freitas Ice Forum. The 'Cats won in overtime, 2-1, earlier this season on Jan. 2.
