Lazzaro earns honor for third time; Maass for second time.
GLOUCESTER, Mass. – 2020 University of New Hampshire graduate Joe Lazzaro (Hampstead, N.H.) and senior Benton Maass (Elk River, Minn.) of the UNH men's hockey team have been named Krampade All-American Scholars by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA).
To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for the fall semester and participated in 40% of their school's games. A small number of waivers to the 40% participation requirement was granted due to injury or for back-up goaltenders.
This is the third time that Lazzaro has earned this honor, while it is the second time that Maass has been recognized.
Lazzaro was just recently named a Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete by posting a perfect 4.0 GPA for the season as an Electrical Engineering major. He was also selected to the Hockey East Academic All-Star team for having the top GPA for his position, while he was one of just 13 players to reach "Distinguished Scholar" status for having qualified for the All-Academic team in each of his four seasons of varsity play.
Recently, Maass was one of just 31 student-athletes from around the league to be named to the Hockey East All-Academic team for the third time. Maass posted a 3.75 GPA in the fall semester as a Finance and Management major.
