
Joe Lazzaro Earns Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete Honors

Seven Wildcats named to All-Academic team.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – University of New Hampshire senior goalie Joe Lazzaro (Hampstead, N.H.) was one of 15 student-athletes from around the league to earn the prestigious honor of Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete by posting a perfect 4.0 GPA for the season, while a total of seven members of the UNH men's hockey team were named to the All-Academic team.
Lazzaro was also selected to the Academic All-Star team for having the top GPA for his position, while he was one of just 13 players to reach "Distinguished Scholar" status for having qualified for the All-Academic team in each of his four seasons of varsity play.
A recording setting 183 student-athletes from men's hockey teams around the league earned spots on this year's All-Academic team. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must post a 3.0 GPA or better in all academic semesters in which his team was actively competing.
Junior defenseman Benton Maass (Elk River, Minn.) was one of 31 student-athletes to be named to the All-Academic team for the third time, while junior forward Kohei Sato (Nishitokyo, Japan), and sophomore defensemen Drew Hickey (New Canaan, Conn.), Will MacKinnon (Plymouth, Mich.) and Ryan Verrier (Reading, Mass.) received this accolade for the second time. Senior forward Joe Sacco (Reading, Mass.) earned this honor for the first time.
