Redshirt freshman had 18 points, 4 assists in team-leading 34 minutes vs Keene State
BOSTON – University of New Hampshire redshirt freshman Blondeau Tchoukuiengo (Montreal, Quebec) was named the America East Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance in the Wildcats' season-opening 93-54 victory against Keene State on Nov. 25.
Monday's announcement comes on the one-year anniversary of the fifth and final game of Tchoukuiengo's injury-shortened true-freshman season. The 6-foot-2 guard came off the bench, played a team-high 34 minutes and scored 18 points on 7-for-17 (.412) shooting from the field, which included 2-for-2 from the 3-point line. Tchoukuiengo went 2-for-3 from the free-throw stripe and led the Wildcats in assists (four) and steals (four) while adding five rebounds and a blocked shot. He scored the first six points of the game's decisive 18-0 run that turned a 36-31 lead into a 54-31 advantage.
The Wildcats (1-0, 0-0 America East) return to action for a non-conference game against Bryant (0-1, 0-0 NEC) on Tuesday, Dec. 1 (4 p.m., ESPN3) at Lundholm Gym.
