CLEVELAND – Cameron Brusko (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Josh Kania (Milton, Ga.) of the University of New Hampshire football team were recently named to the 2019 FCS Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.
UNH is one of 11 schools to have two players honored; no team had more than two representatives.
Brusko and Kania – both graduate students who started all 10 games in their last year as a UNH Wildcat – are two of just 53 players to receive this accolade from a pool of nearly 120 applicants.
Brusko, who has a 3.98 cumulative GPA, ranked fourth on the team in total tackles with 54 (33 solo, 21 assisted). The linebacker's other stats included four tackles for loss, including two sacks, and one pass breakup. Brusko recorded a career-high 10 tackles (7-3-10) at Florida International University. He made seven or more tackles three other games and that included eight (4-4-8) in the home opener against the University of Rhode Island. Three of his seven tackles in the season opener at the College of the Holy Cross were behind the line of scrimmage.
Kania, who has a 3.91 cumulative GPA, recorded 27 tackles (11-16-27) and that total ranked third among UNH defensive ends. His 6.5 tackles for loss tied for fourth on the team. He also tallied three sacks and a pass breakup. Kania recorded a career-high 2.5 tackles for loss against Elon University. He matched that 2.5 tackles for loss at the University of Delaware, and the two sacks against the Blue Hens also marked a career high.
Each FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team honoree is required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20, be a starter or key player with legitimate credentials, has completed at least one full academic year at the current institution, and participated in at least 50 percent of games played at the designated position.
New Hampshire ended the 2019 season with a 28-10 victory against the University of Maine at Wildcat Stadium on Nov 23 to finish with a 6-5 overall record that included 5-3 in the CAA.
