Former Wildcat Student-Athlete Returns to UNH for Second Time
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire department of athletics announced Tuesday the hiring of former Wildcat track & field co-captain Shawn Green '96 as the associate athletic director for compliance. Green returns to UNH, where he previously worked as assistant athletic director of compliance from 2010-15.
As UNH's associate athletic director for compliance, Green will be the senior compliance administrator responsible for all aspects of NCAA compliance including eligibility, financial aid, monitoring/enforcement, rules interpretations, and coaches' education.
His return to UNH follows four years (2015-19) as the assistant director of athletics for compliance at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H. During his tenure at SNHU, Green served on the NCAA Division II Cross Country Committee (2017-19) and the NAAC Division II Reasonable Standards Committee (2018-19), where he was the committee chair from Nov. 2018-March 2019.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have someone as talented as Shawn return to UNH," said Michelle Bronner, UNH's Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator. "He is well positioned to take over all compliance responsibilities and his knowledge of the department and our coaches will allow him to dive right in. Bringing Shawn in as a senior level administrator continues to strengthen our department."
"I am very excited to rejoin the staff at UNH and want to thank Marty Scarano and Michelle Bronner for this opportunity," Green said. "My familiarity with UNH Athletics as an employee and student-athlete combined with my past four years' experience at SNHU will help me lead the UNH Athletics compliance efforts in the future."
Green previously worked at UNH from 2010-15. He started in the fall of 2010 as compliance coordinator and academic support assistant and was elevated to assistant athletic director for compliance in July 2013. His responsibilities included coordinating the department's National Letter of Intent (NLI) program, overseeing coaches' education as well as University and community outreach and education. He also monitored rules compliance and provided NCAA rules interpretations to coaches and staff.
Prior to joining the staff at UNH, Green served as head coach for the men's and women's cross country and track teams for nine years at Quinnipiac University and one year as the men's cross country/track and field coach at Southern Connecticut State University. Green is a three-time Northeast Conference (NEC) and one-time Northeast-10 Coach of the Year.
As a student-athlete, Green helped UNH win North Atlantic Conference championships under head coach Jim Boulanger in 1995 and 1996. Green completed his eligibility as a graduate student at Michigan State in 1997.
Green is a former vice president of the New England Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country/Track and Field Association and chair of the Northeast Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Coaches Committee. He has also briefly served on the USTFCCCA Cross Country Executive Committee.
Green earned a Bachelor's Degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from UNH in 1996 and a Master's Degree in Kinesiology: Exercise Physiology from Michigan State in 1998.
