Former UNH track standouts Elinor Purrier and Michael Shanahan continue to compete at the top level.
DURHAM, N.H. - Two University of New Hampshire track and field alum competed at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships this past weekend, Friday, February 22 to Sunday, February 24.

Multi-time All-American and mile national champion Elinor Purrier '18,  placed 3rd in the 2 mile run with a time of 9 minutes, 34.65 seconds, and 6th in the mile with 4:32.69. Her collegiate personal best in the mile, 4:26.55, is was the second-fastest time in NCAA history. When her time at UNH was up, Purrier finished with 11 All-American accolades, and 17 America East individual championships across both indoor and outdoor track and cross country, and one individual NCAA Championship.

Michael Shanahan '17, placed 8th in the weight throw with a distance of  74 feet, ¾ inches. Shanahan broke the school record for the weight throw several times in his career, the best coming in at 73'10.5".  Shanahan was a two-time All American for UNH last track season as a graduate student, and a four-time America East champion over the course of his career.
