CHERRY HILL, N.J. – University of New Hampshire senior co-captain Isiah Perkins (Williamstown, N.J.) has been named the NCAA Division I FCS Player of the Year by the Brooks-Irvine Memorial Football Club of South Jersey, which will honor Perkins at its 75th annual banquet Monday, Dec. 16, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, N.J.
Perkins, who starred at Williamstown High School in New Jersey prior to coming to UNH, led the Wildcats with eight pass breakups while starting all 11 games. The 6-foot, 191-pound defensive back racked up 39 tackles (29 solo), including 1.5 tackles for loss, an interception and a forced fumble. The forced fumble, which UNH recovered, occurred on Maine's first play from scrimmage and ignited the Wildcats' 28-10 defeat of the rival Black Bears on Nov. 23 at Wildcat Stadium in Perkins' final collegiate game.
Perkins earned his undergraduate degree in Environmental & Resource Economics and is currently pursuing his Masters in business administration.
The UNH football team finished the season with a record of 6-5 and tied for third place in the CAA with a 5-3 mark. The Wildcats have posted a winning record in 15 of the last 16 seasons, including 14 straight NCAA playoff appearances from 2004-17.
The Brooks-Irvine Football Club has been honoring top scholar-athletes in South Jersey since 1945.
