DURHAM, N.H. – The Otis family was honored as UNH Athletics "Donors of the Game" during Saturday's football game against Maine at Wildcat Stadium.
Siblings Cindy Lindemeyer '66, Steve Otis '69, and Diane Keleher '80 have been supporting UNH Athletics since the early 1980s. However, the origin of the Otis story began nearly half a century earlier when their late parents, Don and Eleanor Otis, met while attending UNH. Don and Eleanor enjoyed a 70-year marriage, one that held a special spot for UNH and UNH Athletics. The late couple was involved in a variety of aspects at UNH; Don served as his class president for 60 years, and they both would often attend alumni meetings and reunions.
On top of their philanthropy, Don and Eleanor were longtime season ticket holders of both football and men's hockey. Upon their passing, the Otis children claimed the tickets and seats that their parents enjoyed for so many years.
In 2012, Cindy, Steve and Diane, along with their spouses Paul, Judy and Randy, established the Donald '39 & Eleanor Gay Otis '41 Family Athletic Scholarship, which annually benefits a football and men's hockey player. The Otis family especially enjoys meeting their scholarship recipient and being able to follow those student-athletes throughout their Wildcat careers.
"We have always considered Durham as our home away from home thanks to the memories made at UNH," said the Otis's. "Our parents met at UNH, and their love was so strong that it led to each of us attending UNH ourselves. As alumni, we not only enjoy reconnecting with fellow classmates, but, more importantly, we love being able to support Wildcat students-athletes so they can succeed in their studies and in competition."
Additionally, Steve and his spouse, Judy, established the Stephen '69 & Judith Otis Family Athletics Fund in 2019. Once fully funded, the endowment will benefit football and men's hockey student-athletes.
UNH Athletics is grateful for the loyalty, commitment and unwavering support from the Otis family, as well as all supporters of the Wildcats. Your support, no matter the amount, has a tremendous impact on our student-athletes and their ability to achieve their athletic and academic goals.
