Petke Records 21 Kills in 3-1 Loss at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) recorded a season-high 21 kills but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was edged 3-1 by the University of Hartford in Sunday afternoon's regular-season finale at Hartford Volleyball Gym.
The set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 27-25. UNH moves to 17-8 overall and 7-3 in America East. Hartford, which fought off three set points in Set 4 to close out the match, improved to 15-12, 6-4.

STAT LEADERS
- Petke tallied her season-high 21 kills on a .528 hitting percentage. She also had two block assists to finish with 22 points, also a season high.
- Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) recorded her second double-double of the weekend and team-leading eighth of the season with 16 kills and 10 digs. Her other stats included a .400 hitting percentage, two service aces and 18.5 points.
- Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Michigan) recorded five service aces for the third consecutive match. She also had 13 assists, five digs and three kills.
- Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) finished with 26 assists and a team-high 11 digs.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire has a 46-4 lifetime against Hartford. This was the Hawks' first win in the series since Oct. 13, 2012.
- Patlovich, who became the fifth Wildcat to reach the 2,000 assist milestone Friday at Stony Brook, increased her career total to 2,047.
- Smith is No. 7 in career kills (1,063); ahead of her is No. 6 Morgan Thatcher (1,168).
- Smith is No. 8 on the all-time points list with 1,251; next on the list is No. 7 Morgan Thatcher (1,322).
- Emily Tanski is No. 2 on UNH's career digs list and 10 digs Sunday increased her career total to 1,466. Madison Lightfoot holds the record of 1,657.
SET 1
- There were four tie scores and two lead changes in the first set.
- Hartford raced out to a 5-0 lead.
- Trailing 7-2, the Wildcats won six consecutive points to surge in front, 8-7. A kill by Petke was followed by a combined block from Patlovich and Hannah Crist (Cicero, Ind.), a Macaulay service ace and kill by Smith. The Hawks committed an attack error to extend UNH's run, and thenan Erin Hedrick (Montvale, N.J.) kill gave the 'Cats the lead.
- The teams exchanged points to advance the score to 9-9. UNH inched ahead, 11-9, at which point Hartford called time out and rallied to take an 18-11 lead.
- UNH would get no closer than five points the rest of the way as the home team took the first set, 25-17.
SET 2
- There were no ties or lead changes in the second set.
- New Hampshire rolled out to a 6-0 lead. Kills by Petke ended the first two points of the set, and the run also included a service ace by Logan Welti (Middleton, Wis.) and two kills by Smith.
- Tanski tallied consecutive aces to give the 'Cats a 9-1 lead.
- Hartford trimmed the deficit to four points, 17-13, but then a kill by Crist and Smith's ace pushed the margin to 19-13 and prompt a Hawks' timeout.
- The home team won the next three points to close within 19-16, at which point UNH called time out.
- Crist ended that spurt with a kill and the 'Cats opened up a 22-17 lead.
- Petke's kill down the line gave UNH set point, 24-19. Hartford fended off two set points, but then a combined block by Petke and Crist ended the set, 25-21, and leveled the match a one set apiece.
SET 3
- There were four tie scores but no lead changes in the third set.
- Hartford won three of the first four points and built a 7-3 lead.
- UNH pulled within a point, 11-10, on an ace by Macaulay.
- The Hawks went on a 3-1 run to extend the margin to 14-11.
- Katie Jablonski (Elburn, Ill.) tallied a kill and assisted block with Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) to once again lift the 'Cats within a point, 14-13. That duo combined for another block to forge a 15-15 tie.
- The home team called a timeout and retook the lead on a service error, and the teams exchanged points to advance the score to 18-18.
- Hartford won the next two points and surged ahead 23-19, at which point New Hampshire called time out.
- The Hawks won the next two points, however, to close out the set.
SET 4
- There were 10 tie scores and four lead changes in the fourth set.
- UNH called an early timeout after the home team took a 3-0 lead.
- Hartford won the next three points out of the break, however, to extend the advantage to 6-0.
- Trailing 7-1, the Wildcats won four consecutive points – two on Macaulay service aces – to trim the deficit to 7-5 and prompt a Hawks' timeout.
- The pause in action did not impact Macualay, who served a third consecutive ace and then Smith's kill tied the score, 7-7.
- With the score tied at 10, Hartford won three consecutive points.
- UNH answered with four consecutive points, including kills by Jablonski and Petke, as well as an ace by Patlovich, to take a 14-13 lead.
- Out of Hartford's last timeout of the set, Sullivan hit the ball to the floor to push the margin to 15-13.
- Welti's ace was followed by a Petke kill that extended the margin to 18-14.
- The Hawks answered with five consecutive points to regain the lead, 19-18.
- Petke's kill leveled the score and Tanski's ace gave UNH a 20-19 edge.
- New Hampshire called the last timeout of the set with a 23-22 lead.
- Hartford's service error gave UNH set point, but the Hawks tied the score at 24.
- Hedrick's floater over the blockers gave the 'Cats another set point, 25-24, but once again the home team extended the set and won the next two points to end the set and match, 27-25.
