UNH Skates to 2-2 Tie with UConn

Wildcats set school record for ties.
HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) and freshman Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) each scored for the Wildcats, while sophomore Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) posted 23 saves as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team tied UConn, 2-2, on Friday night at the XL Center. With the tie, the Wildcats are now 8-8-8 overall (4-5-5 HEA), while UConn is 7-14-2 (2-10-2 HEA).
The Wildcats are now 6-1-3 over the last 10 games and 3-1-2 over the last six Hockey East games. The eight ties this season sets a school record for UNH. Junior Liam Blackburn (Prince George, British Columbia) posted an assist to extend his point streak to 14 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gildon sent a wrist shot to the lower stick side of the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at 4:20 of the first period while on the power play. The goal was his fourth of the season. Senior Ara Nazarian (Boxford, Mass.) and Blackburn each posted an assist on the goal.
- UNH outshot UConn, 10-9, while the Wildcats went 1-2 on the power play and the Huskies went 0-1.
- The Huskies tied the game at 1-1 just 49 seconds after the opening faceoff of the second period when Alexander Payusov found the back of the net. After receiving a pass from Max Kalter, Payusov blasted a one-timer from the left faceoff circle to the upper glove side of the net.
- At 4:18 of the second period, the Wildcats looked to take the lead but a shot by freshman Angus Crookshank (North Vancouver, British Columbia) ricocheted off the post.
- UConn outshot UNH by a 10-7 margin, while the Wildcats went 0-1 on the man-advantage and the Huskies went 0-2.
- The Huskies took a 2-1 lead at 3:41 of the third period as Payusov netted his second goal of the game. Payusov fired a wrist shot from the slot to the stick side of the net.
- At 7:30, the Wildcats tied the game at 2-2 when Pierson netted his seventh goal of the season. Pierson skated with the puck to the net and sent a shot overt the stick side shoulder of Adam Huska. Sophomore Charlie Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Anthony Wyse (Newton, Mass.) each tallied an assist on the goal.
- The game then went to overtime. With 1:04 remaining, senior Chris Miller (Windham, N.H.) fired a shot that hit the post. Neither team was able to score the game winner for the 2-2 final.

- UNH outshot UConn by a 31-25 margin.
- Robinson made 23 saves, while Adam Huska recorded 29.
- The Wildcats went 1-4 on the power play and the Huskies went 1-5.
