DURHAM, N.H. – Brad '65 '78G and Judy Aiken received the UNH Athletics Donor of the Game Award during Saturday night's football game against Colgate University at Wildcat Stadium.
Brad and Judy have been generous Wildcat supporters for over 35 years and have not only demonstrated their loyalty to athletics, but to other areas at the University as well.
In 2006, the Aikens were part of a loyal group of alumni and friends who helped provide philanthropic support to fund the bronze Wildcat statue that is located on the Main Street side of Memorial Field, now known to students and alumni as a symbol of UNH pride. In 2011 they established the Bradley '65, '78G and Judith Aiken Endowed Scholarship Fund to provide scholarship support to a student demonstrating financial need.
Specifically, for the Department of Athletics, the Aikens have supported key priorities for the Wildcats. In 2011, during the Celebrate 150 university-wide fundraising campaign, they were part of a small group of donors who funded the construction of the Watkins Center for Student-Athlete Excellence, the academic success center in the Field House utilized by all 500 student-athletes.
In 2013, they declared their estate intentions to establish the Bradley J. '65, '78G, and Judith K. Aiken Endowed Football Scholarship Fund, a future endowment which will provide meritorious scholarship support to members of the football team. In addition, the Aikens support several athletic programs with generous annual contributions. Finally, Brad and Judy simply enjoy watching our student-athletes compete and they regularly attend home contests, and occasionally travel to watch Wildcat teams on the road.
"I have a great sense of pride and passion for UNH," Brad said during Saturday night's ceremony. "I was fortunate enough to attend UNH because of a variety of financial aid opportunities, and I am pleased to be able to give back and pay it forward so that other students receive a similar experience."
For many years, Brad served as the treasurer of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. Subsequently he served on the Alumni Relations and Athletics Department Joint Committee, which was established to provide guidance and direction in aligning alumni engagement opportunities with UNH Athletic contests, both home and away.
UNH Athletics is grateful for the loyalty, commitment and unwavering support of Brad and Judy Aiken. As with all donors, we recognize the impact of philanthropy on supporting our student-athletes in achieving their athletic and academic goals while representing the University with pride and integrity.
