Wotton Leads Attack with 18 Kills, .317 Hitting Percentage
STORRS, Conn. – Molly Wotton (Dover, N.H.) recorded a total of 18 kills on a .317 hitting percentage – both team highs – but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was defeated by both UConn, 3-1, and Syracuse University, 3-0, in Friday's opening day of the UConn Challenge at Gampel Pavillion.
In the tourney's opening match, UConn prevailed in a hard-fought, four-set match 25-21, 27-25, 19-25, 25-23.
Syracuse won in straight sets: 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.
Maddie Wiedenfield (Omaha, Neb.) matched Wotton's 18 kills on a .200 hitting percentage; Wiedenfeld also had a team-high six blocks on the day. Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) amassed 68 assists, which calculated to 9.71 per set.

Wildcat Leaders vs. UConn
- Patlovich matched her career high of 47 assists.
- Wiedenfeld had a career-high 13 kills and .267 hitting percentage. Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.) also tallied 13 kills on a .257 hitting percentage.
- Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.
- Wotton finished with 10 kills.
- Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) had a match-high 26 digs.
SET 1
- UConn rolled out to an 11-4 lead and led by as many as 10 points, 17-7.
- UNH trailed 19-10 before rallying to close within 23-20.
- A kill by UConn's Genna Florig pushed the Huskies to set point and, after a kill by Wotton, she tallied another kill to end Set 1, 25-21.
SET 2
- It was a close set throughout, as neither team led by more than three points as the score advanced to an 18-18 tie. Overall, there were 10 ties and two lead changes in Set 2.
- With the score tied at 21, UConn won three consecutive points to take a 24-21 lead. After a couple of Huskies' errors, a kill by Wotton leveled the score at 24.
- The teams exchanged points, then back-to-back kills by Iman McGary and Florig ended the set in favor of UConn, 27-25.
SET 3
- The Wildcats took an early 6-2 advantage, but the home team chipped away and eventually went ahead 14-13.
- UNH won the next four points, however, and UConn never pulled even the rest of the set as the 'Cats closed the set on a 12-5 run.
SET 4
- There were 12 ties and six lead changes in the set.
- With the score tied at 9, the 'Cats surged ahead with a 4-0 run that included a pair of kills from Wotton.
- UConn soon responded with a 5-0 spurt to go back in front, 16-15.
- The teams exchanged points to push the score to 22-22.
- Trailing 24-22, UNH fended off one match point on a kill by Petke, but then a Wildcats' attack error on the next sequence gave the set and match to UConn.

Wildcat Leaders vs. Syracuse
- Wotton recorded a team-high eight kills on a .263 hitting percentage and Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) was next with seven kills.
SET 1
- UNH opened strong and trailed by just one point, 14-13, before Syracuse won four consecutive points to create a little cushion the Orange was able to maintain the rest of the way to take the set, 25-21.
SET 2
- 'Cuse won the initial four points of the set and UNH never pulled even the rest of the way.
- The Wildcats did close within one point, 6-5, but the designated home team responded with a 7-0 run to gain control of the set.
SET 3
- There were five ties and one lead change in Set 3. New Hampshire raced out to a 3-0 lead maintained a cushion through 10-7.
- SU then went on a 5-2 run to tie the score at 12. The teams traded points to advance the score to 16-16, then the Orange won three consecutive points and kept the 'Cats at bay the rest of the way.
