Senior to lead the Wildcats for the 2018-19 season.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey program has named senior forward Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) as its team captain for the 2018-19 season. He is the 115th captain in program history.
"Marcus has a great work ethic," said head coach Mike Souza. "He brings it every day at practice and plays the game the right way. He's got a presence about him and I think the guys recognized all that and that's why they elected him captain."

Vela, who was selected in the seventh round (190th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks, has played in 99 career games with 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points. Last year, as a junior he earned the team's Warren R. Brown Memorial Award which is presented to the Best Defensive Forward. He was fourth on the team with seven goals, while he added eight assists for 15 points.

The Wildcats will start the 2018-19 season when they travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Colgate on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13, on ESPN+ at the Class of 1965 Arena. The game on Friday is at 7:00 p.m. and the contest on Saturday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
