DURHAM, N.H. – Dr. Jay and Martie Gooze received the UNH athletics donor of the game award during Saturday night's men's hockey game at the Whittemore Center Arena. The Wildcats defeated the University of Vermont 3-2 in a come from behind victory.
Dr. Gooze and his wife, Martie, have been members of the Wildcat community for over 40 years. In 1977, Jay began volunteering as a team doctor for the UNH men's hockey team. He remained in his volunteering role through the 2017-18 season until officially retiring. Dr. Gooze performed several procedures for the team during his tenure, primarily treating facial and eye injuries. During his time as team doctor, he provided treatment and guidance to players, coaches, and even officials, and helped the hockey team save a considerable amount of money for his medical expertise. Dr. Gooze also assisted the football team and a number of other Wildcat sports during his time at UNH.
Jay and Martie have been supporters of UNH Athletics for over 30 years. Their primary support has been to the Friends of UNH Hockey, but have also become annual donors to other programs and areas as well. They are both extremely excited to continue their support as season ticket holders to men's hockey.
"I have a great deal of passion for the Wildcats,", Dr. Gooze said. "I was proud to serve this team for a number of years, and I'm excited to continue my involvement as a season ticket holder, fan, and supporter of the program."
UNH Athletics thanks Jay and Martie Gooze, as well as all donors to UNH athletics, for their loyalty and support of the Wildcats.
