DURHAM, N.H. – Carroll Winch '63 was presented the UNH athletics donor of the game award, presented by Geico, during the Oct. 21 football win against Towson University at Wildcat Stadium.
Winch, a graduate of the Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, has supported UNH athletics philanthropically for nearly three decades. During his time as a student, Winch earned a degree in Business Administration.
An avid supporter of the UNH football program, Winch was eager to be among the many fans who supported the construction of Wildcat Stadium.
Winch is also among one of the longest-tenured season ticket holders in UNH athletics history. The 2017 football season marked his 50th year as a season ticket holder. Following graduation in 1963 and a tour of duty in the military, he returned to Durham with his late wife, Barbara '60, to attend the 1967 Homecoming football game. They purchased season tickets that year and he has not missed a season since.
"We fell in love with the energy in Durham and became devoted to watching Wildcat football," Carroll said. "We seldom ever missed a game, no matter the weather – sun, rain, sleet or snow – and we enjoyed traveling to away games as well.
"For me, it is an easy decision to support UNH Athletics," Carroll continued. "The coaching staffs at UNH have strong philosophies to recruit high school and prep-school graduates who are excellent athletes and diligent students. It gives me pride to support a program that emphasizes the growth of student-athletes both in the classroom and in competition."
UNH Athletics thanks Carroll, as well as all donors to UNH athletics, for their loyalty and support of the Wildcats.
