Tanski, Smith Tally 10 Saves Apiece in 3-0 Win vs. Hartford

DURHAM, N.H. – Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) and Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) recorded 10 kills apiece to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Saturday afternoon's 3-0 victory against University of Hartford at Lundholm Gym.
The set scores were 25-11, 25-21, 25-18.
UNH improved to 8-11 overall and 4-2 in America East, as well as 6-1 at home, with the straight-set victory. Hartford, which entered the match on a two-game win streak, is now 5-15, 2-4.
Smith tallied her 10 kills on a .389 hitting percentage; she also had three digs and two service aces. Tanski's 10 kills were on a .304 hitting percentage; she added eight digs and two blocks.

THE DIFFERENCE
- UNH utilized a balanced attack and recorded a .292 hitting percentage as well as 10 service aces, including four by Emma Patlovich.
- The Wildcats also limited Hartford to a .125 hitting percentage that included .000 in Set 1.
SET 1
- There was one tie score and one lead change in the opening set, and both occurred in the first three points of the match; Hartford won the opening point on an ace, but then a service error tied the score at 1 and a kill by Smith gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
- UNH parlayed an early 4-1 advantage into a 12-3 cushion and a double-digit margin at 15-5.
SET 2
- There were five ties and two lead changes in the second set.
- UNH won the initial three points, but Hartford chipped away and took a 9-8 lead.
- The Hawks led by as many as four points, 14-10, before the 'Cats went on a 5-1 run to tie the score at 15.
- Hartford went back in front, 17-15, but New Hampshire responded with four consecutive points to regain the lead, 19-17.
- UNH still led by two points, 22-20, when a kill by Bowman and Hawks' attack error advanced the score to 24-20.
- The visitors fended off one set point but then succumbed on a kill by Petke.
SET 3
- There was just one tie and no lead changes in the third set.
- UNH built and early 3-0 lead but Hartford answered with three consecutive points to level the score at 3.
- A pair of Smith service aces bolstered a five-point surge that gave the 'Cats an 8-3 lead.
- Hartford trimmed the deficit to 9-8, but UNH's 6-2 spurt pushed the margin to 15-10.
- The Hawks countered with a 7-2 run to keep the set close at 17-15.
- A pair of Tanski kills sandwiched one by Olhava as UNH pushed the score to 20-15.
- Moments later, Smith recorded back-to-back kills to end the set and the match.
