Petke Tallies Career-High 15 Kills In 3-1 Loss at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) recorded a career-high 15 kills and Courtney Bowman (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) tallied a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Binghamton University at West Gym on Sunday afternoon.

The set scores were 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.

Petke established her personal-best and team-high 15 kills on a .324 hitting percentage. Bowman finished with 13 kills and 15 digs. Molly Wotton (Dover, N.H.) recorded a career-high seven blocks and also had five kills.

UNH, which entered the match on a five-match win streak, is now 7-10 overall and 2-1 in America East. Binghamton improved to 5-11, 2-1.

THE DIFFERENCE

After roaring out of the gates with a .379 hitting percentage in Set 1, the Wildcats were held in check in the second (.091) and fourth (.114) sets and finished at .194 for the match.

SET 1

UNH won the first three points and jumped out to a 7-3 lead behind three kills and a block by Petke.
Binghamton closed within 11-10, but then a Bearcats' service error was followed by back-to-back kills and a block by Bowman to extend the Wildcats' lead to 15-10.
Binghamton rallied to take an 18-17 lead, but UNH responded with a 5-1 run to take a 22-19 advantage.
Moments later, the Wildcats closed out the first set on back-to-back Binghamton errors.

SET 2

New Hampshire carried momentum into the second set to build a 4-0 lead with the last two points coming on Jereczek service aces.
The Bearcats answered immediately with five consecutive points, but UNH surged back in front 7-5.
With the score tied at 8, UNH went back ahead 11-8 and was in front 17-12 before the home team rallied to tie the score at 19.
Binghamton went on a 4-1 run to take a 23-20 lead en route to winning the second set and leveling the match.

SET 3

Wotton was huge early in the fourth set with two kills and two blocks to propel the Wildcats to a 7-1 advantage.
The Bearcats reeled off six consecutive points to level the score at 7.
Trailing 11-9, Binghamton went on another 6-0 run to go ahead 15-11 and BU kept UNH at bat the rest of the set.

SET 4

The teams traded points early before the home 'Cats won four consecutive points to take a 6-2 lead.
New Hampshire answered with a 4-0 run, but so did Binghamton to push the score to 10-6.
The Bearcats inched ahead, 12-7, and never let the Wildcats get closer than two points the rest of the way.
UNH trailed 23-19 when back-to-back kills by Petke and Bowman closed the gap to two points, 23-21.
Binghamton won the next point, however, to move within one point of winning the match at 24-21.
Bowman's kill extended the set, albeit it briefly as Gabby Alicea recorded the last of her match-high 21 kills to give Binghamton the victory.
