Women's Team Places 17 on Team; Men Have 13 Honored

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – A combined total of 30 University of New Hampshire student-athletes on the men's and women's ice hockey teams were named to the 2015-16 Hockey East All-Academic Team on Thursday. The women's team tied for the second highest number of representatives with 17, while the men also tied for second with 13.

All of the honorees achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better in both the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters.

Sara Carlson (Hutchinson, Minn.), Heather Kashman (Edmonton, Alberta) and Vilma Vaattovaara (Veikkola, Finland) reached Distinguished Scholar status this year by qualifying for the All-Academic Team all four years of varsity play. A quartet of men's players – Maxim Gaudreault (Annapolis, Md.), Collin MacDonald (West Milford, N.J.), Harry Quast (Millica Hills, N.J.) and Jamie Regan (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) – also attained that honor.

On the women's team, only sophomore forward Kate Haslett (Rothesay, New Brunswick) is a three-time honoree; she was feted in her redshirt year of 2013-14. Three other sophomore forwards – Brooke Avery (Loudon, N.H.), Amy Boucher (Edmonton, Alberta) and Carlee Toews (Grand Prairie, Alberta) – were honored for the second time in as many years, while senior forward Brittney Redlick (Biggar, Saskatchewan) and junior goaltender Ashley Wilkes (North Pole, Alaska) also made the grade for the second time in their careers.

Senior forwards Haley Breedlove (Plano, Texas) and Margo Lund (St. Paul, Minn.) earned the accolade for the first time, as did freshmen defensemen Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick) and Jenna Rheault (Deering, N.H.), freshmen forwards Caitlyn Radatovich (Advance, N.C.), Devan Taylor (North Billerica, Mass.) and Taylor Wenczkowski (Rochester, N.H.), and freshman goaltender Krya Smith (Littleton, Colo.).

Defenseman Matias Cleland (Longmont, Colo.), who will captain the men's team in 2016-17, earned the honor for the third time. Fellow blueliners Dylan Maller (Parkland, Fla.) and Cameron Marks (North Vancouver, British Columbia) made the grade for the second time as did forwards Kyle Smith (Lumberton, N.J.) and Andrew Poturalski (Williamsville, N.Y.). Netminders Adam Clark (Sherwood Park, Alberta) and Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) were also honored for the second time. Michael McNicholas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Dylan Chanter (Armstrong, British Columbia) were first-time honorees.

The Hockey East Association is a 12-team Division-I men's college hockey conference founded in 1984, and also sponsors a nine-team Division-I women's league that began play in 2002-03.
